Dairy Machinery

In the Dairy Development Department various machineries are installed in he Milk Dairies/Chilling Centres for milk processing/chilling. Among these machineries few important machineries are as below

1)Milk Plate Chiller

To maintain the quality of milk received in the Dairy/Chilling Centre, it is chilled to 4°C by milk chiller. The chiller consists of stainless steel plates. Chilling is done by flowing milk from one side and chilled water from other side of the plates.

2)Pasteurize 

To maintain the quality of milk for longer period it needs to be pasteurized. In the pasteurization process milk is heated up to 72°C and hold for 16 seconds and thereafter cooled to 4°C. This process is invented by the Scientist Lui Pasteur. Hence, it is called as Pasteurization. In this process milk is heated by means of hot water, after few seconds. It is cooled by means of cold water. Necessary Auto controls are provided to ensure pasteurization at predetermined temperature .

3)Homogenizer

In order to have dispersion of fats uniformly into mass of the milk, fat particles are broken into minute particles (less than 2 microns) by homogenizer. It consists of high pressure pump and homogenizing valve. As the size of fat globules is reduced, it mixes in the whole mass uniformly thereby reducing yellowness of milk and the process of depositing creamy layer on top is retarded, which helps to keep the fat percentage uniform in tanker while transporting milk.

4) Cream Separator

Cream Separator is used to separate fat from milk for converting this skim milk to powder. In this machine the mass is rotated and due to variation in gravity of fat and skim milk, they are separated due to centrifugal force. Separated fat is used to make butter and ghee and skimmed milk is used to produce powder. Cream Separator is also used for clarification/standardization of milk. In clarification process foreign particles present in milk are removed. In standardization process, fat percentage in milk is kept at predetermined level.

5) Pouching Machine

Milk is distributed in polythylene film packs. In this machine required quantity of milk (200/500/1000 ml) is filled in polyethylene pouches. Required size pouch is produced, filled and sealed by this machine. All this activities are done automatically. The excess milk received in flush season is utilized for producing milk powder. Powder plants are installed at 4 places in the department as mentioned below: 1) Govt. Milk Scheme, Akola - 15 MT/day cap. 2) Govt. Milk Scheme, Udgir - 10 MT/day cap. 3) Govt. Milk Scheme, Miraj - 10 MT/day cap. 2 Nos. 4) Govt. Milk Scheme, Nagpur - 5 MT/day cap.
